Anthonette has blended her writing skills with her environmental knowledge to advocate for an eco-friendly environment. Her expertise is in water and sustainable development, protected area management, community-based natural resource management, climate change adaptation, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building. She has worked in both the governmental and civil society sectors to implement environmental and climate-conscious initiatives.
The primary work that she does is to study the natural environment and the impact of the Anthropocene. Through her work, she aims to encourage young people to get involved in environmental advocacy and promote ways for communities to adjust to the changing climate adaptation. Anthonette’s vision for making the world a better place is to create a safe and clean environment where gender equity is at the forefront and environmental justice is practiced.
Anthonette is a Liberian native who is passionate about sustainably addressing environmental issues. Born in a country battling floods and deforestation of the largest remaining rainforest in Upper Guinea, she has studied and worked in three West African countries, writing environmental-centred papers to inform policies.
Anthonette initially received her undergraduate degree in environmental science with a thesis on the health effects of cyanide spills in rural Liberia. She later pursued a first master’s in forestry, focusing on symbiotic plants in Sierra Leone’s Domboma forest. After her masters in 2021, she worked as a biodiversity and behaviour change personnel for Fauna & Flora Liberia, supporting the Franklinia Foundation Treescape project and coordinating the Women-Led Chimpanzees Conservation Awareness Project. She also worked with local people to help them adapt to climate change and meet their livelihood needs sustainably, using participatory rural appraisal techniques. In 2023, she joined the West African Civil Society Institute in Accra, Ghana, where she coordinated governance research projects and increased her profile in the civil society sector.
As a researcher, she has published in various journals, such as Young African Leaders Journal of Development, Iroha Publishing, World Environmental Education Congress, and Academia and ResearchGate, utilising primary and secondary data from environmental and social sources.
